News: Coming soon:Natural gas power plant by DLF, Gurgaon |
|
In a major
development in the power sector, DLF has commissioned a 10 MW natural
gas power plant. At present, it will only to cater to cyber city, a
commercial center housing offices of about 170 MNCs. This is the first
time that a private developer has commissioned a natural gas plant in
the country.
For the purpose, DLF
is buying a volume of 40,000 cubic meters of natural gas from the Gas
Authority of India Limited. The cost per unit would be Rs.2.7 as against
Rs.4.19 per unit of electricity supplied by Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam.
The cost of running on generators is Rs.9 per unit.
According to senior
officer at DLF, as more and more MNCs are moving to Gurgaon, supply of
power has become the primary concern. As power supplied by the
government is not sufficient, one has to resort to one’s captive units
and usage of natural gas is an eco-friendly and cheap option.
Natural gas power
plants are significant because on burning, natural gas emits virtually
no sulphur dioxide, particular matter, green house gases and nitrogen
oxides. Moreover, the heat and smoke emitted by its consumption can also
be recycled. This will ensure almost free of cost air-conditioning of
about 5,000 tonnes.
The equipment for the
plant has been purchase from USA and China. The project is worth Rs.25
crore. An office at DLF said that if it gets an adequate supply of
natural gas, it would construct three power plant of 35 MW each to cater
to other commercial centers.
DLF
said that they are awaiting a distribution license form the government.
A public notice was issued on January 11 for the purpose. Once the
regulatory commission scrutinizes and approves of the plan, DLf will
able to distribute power to its commercial and residential areas by May.
This will help mall to ends their dependence on generators and also save
the people from battling the menace of power cots every summer.
