establish it as a global company.
"We are
exploring new lines of business allied to agriculture and
agricultural industry. In the coming months, we would be
increasing our presence in fields related to agricultural,
and food," Tata said.
TCL was also branching out into biotechnology and
nanotechnology, Tata said. The agricultural push comes on
the heels of the success of Tata Kisan Sansar programme,
which would shortly open its 500th centre in India. The
high-value fertilisers will be distributed through this
network.
"We have set up a core group that has been studying the
directions TCL needs to take to expand its business," Prasad
Menon, MD, TCL, said.
TCL is taking the recommendations on the new businesses
forward, and is going to announce concrete plans soon.
TCL's recent acquisitions have already showed up in the
balance sheets. The company acquired EU-based Brunner Mond
and Co, which was the fifth largest soda ash manufacturer in
the world. Soda ash is widely used in making glass and other
structural components.
