For
starters, an LPG car offers over 33% more fuel efficiency
when compared with normal petrol-driven model. “Unlike CNG,
which is witnessing a price correction now, commercial LPG
is available at its original market rate. This makes an LPG
car as fuel efficient as a diesel car, with the added
advantage of being clean on emissions,” Maruti Udyog MD
Jagdish Khattar said.
And car buyers need not fret over lack of filling stations
either. Delhi alone boasts of at least 16 LPG filling
stations spread across the city. And unlike CNG — which is
today available only in the metro cities — LPG bunks are
spread across the country.
The car also has the added advantage of a fullsize petrol
tank. In CNGpowered vehicles, the petrol tank size is
reduced and car carry about 2 litres of fuel — one of the
prime reasons for making it unpopular among personal car
buyers. So, if a car owner is driving off to a city where
LPG bunks are not available, he can always drive on petrol.
Priced at Rs 3.40 lakh, WagonR Duo comes with an auto gas
cut-off system to prevent the car from catching fire during
a rear crash. “People cannot use household gas cylinders in
this car as the fuel lines are in-built and cannot be
tampered with,” Maruti’s CGM (engineering) IV Rao said.
Luggage space has not ben compromised as LPG cylinder is
designed to fit into the spare-wheel space.
WagonR Duo comes with safety features like crash protection
beams and auto cut-off system, which cuts off gas supply in
case of a rear crash, says Jagdish Khattar. |
