Names of brands whose retail outlets in Delhi were flattened for running from buildings built without government permission or illegally in residential colonies have begun to reappear at a new address: in
Gurgaon.
From signboards outside shops or on the rooftops of malls, the brands are competing for the attention of buyers, as they did for years in Delhi. Till the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) razed their outlets. The number of retail outlet owners moving into Gurgaon is rising by the day and, on Saturday, Vishal Mega Mart joined them when it opened its outlet here. Its outlet on National Highway-8 was pulled down last month.
The
response in Gurgaon to the exodus of retail outlets has been mixed.
"More and more retailers opening shops has breathed life into the
retail sector," says Baljit Singh, president of MGF Mall.
