Gurgaonites
hopes of early connectivity with mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) have once
again been revived with the center given assurance on it in the parliament.
Union minister of state for urban development Ajay Maken has informed the
parliament that a Detail Project Report of extension of metro rail to Gurgaon
linking Qutab Minar with Sushant Lok, Gurgaon has been prepared.
This
16 km metro route cost Rs.1320 crore for which Delhi and Haryana government
would share the cost in proportion to the length of extension in each state.
He made it clear that since both Delhi and Haryana were studying alternate
alignment the final agreement on metro extension to Gurgaon is yet to be made.
Meanwhile
Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda has strongly taken up the matter
with the Center to ensure that Metro Link to Gurgaon is provided in the second
Phase of Delhi Metro which is to be completed by 2010.
Gurgaon
also continues to be on the map of Integrated Rail Bus Terminal (IRBT) under
which three rapid rail corridors of Tri Nagar to Gurgaon, Shahdara to
Ghaziabad are to be set up at the cost of about Rs.2700 crore. Union minister
for urban development, Jaipal Reddy has told the Parliament that this regional
Rapid Transit System (RRTS) planned by the National Capital Region Planning
Board (NCRPB) and pending before Planning Commission for in principal approval
is being actively considered by the center.
